Artshine: Enriching Lives Through Art (After-school and lunch programs, email email@example.com if we aren't in your child's school)
Teaching the Intangible
At first glance, our classes may seem like any other, but a closer look reveals that something very different is going on. These students aren’t simply learning about art – they’re learning about life.
Artshine goes beyond simply “teaching art” by encouraging exploration and experimentation in a truly supportive environment. It is through this process that our participants reap numerous intangible benefits – such as self confidence, creativity, and openness – that will serve them in all aspects of their lives.
A Supportive, Inspiring Environment
Our programs are led by professionals – qualified teachers and artists, like Brittany Langver. Brittany is also a part time high school teacher and has been with Artshine since the beginning!
“Artshine is so much more than a ‘colouring club’,” says Artshine instructor Natalie Brock. “We encourage our students to explore new concepts, techniques and media, and not to be afraid of making mistakes when trying something new.”
But Artshine goes a step further by encouraging participants to use their imagination to turn their ‘mistakes’ into something beautiful.
“Some of our drawing projects use permanent marker, which can’t be erased,” notes Taryn Klinkman. “A little bit sneaky? Maybe. Effective? Definitely!” Taryn chuckles.
“We encourage our students to explore new concepts, techniques and media, and not to be afraid of making mistakes when trying something new.”
An Emphasis on Inclusivity
From toddlers to teens, to adults, seniors, and people with developmental disabilities, Artshine offers programs that allow people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds to shine in their own creative way.
“Artshine’s mission is to create a community where participation in the arts is not limited by income, ability or life circumstances,” says Nicole Cotie, Office Manager. “Our profits are invested into ARTS4ALL UNLIMITED, a non-profit initiative providing an arts experience for at-risk and underprivileged individuals. We believe that art has a place in everyone’s life, but the benefits of access to the arts can be even more profound for those facing additional challenges in their lives.”
