Artshine X Waterloo Region Crime Prevention

19 In 2019 the Waterloo Region Crime Prevention Council partnered with Artshine and the KW Community Foundation to create a Regional Mural called Every Voice Matters. The Mural was part of our 41st Annual Justice Dinner entitled the same. The mural sought to gather voices from around the region to add to others at the dinner to represent our vast diversity. The Crime Prevention Council 41st Annual Justice Dinner was themed, “Imagine a Community Where Every Voice Matters” We creatively brought many voices to this event in celebration of our region’s unique diversity. The voices of three choirs joined with those who contributed their voices to the Every Voice Matters Regional Mural and the Every Voice Matters Film, which joined with the voices of our 271 guests + choir parents and caregivers. Together there were over 600 voices represented at this dinner. #EveryVoiceMatterWR #ComeSeeTheMural On the mural alone, we gathered the voices of 150-200 people representing a wide range of experiences, opportunities and challenges from across our region. We travelled throughout the region inviting people to have their say about community and belonging in our community. Then The Every Voice Matter mural toured the region until Covid hit in March 2020 accompanied by a guest book which continues to gather voices from the community who saw it. All participants received a tile that became part of the mural where they drew an image, a word(s) or phase about belonging in the Region of Waterloo.
